My Creative Space: Seat Belt Covers

This week I made a pair of seat belt covers for Riley's car seat and one for me too.

It was my first time using bias binding and lets just say that it wasn't a pleasant experience and I'll be steering clear of the stuff in the future! Add to that my temperamental sewing machine and it was a recipe for disaster. I got to the point where I stopped caring what they looked like but I wasn't going to let them beat me and I had to finish them.

After all that they'll do the job they're supposed to, I just won't be letting anyone look too closely at them. Riley likes his which is all that really matters and the cute cars fabric is so appropriate for him.

Recipe: Peanut Butter and Choc Chip Cookies

I'm not really a fan of the whole peanut butter and chocolate combination or at least I wasn't until I tried these!

INGREDIENTS
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2tsp baking soda
85g dark chocolate chips

- Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

- Combine peanut butter, egg, sugar, and baking soda in a bowl. Mix well and stir in chocolate.

- Roll teaspoonfuls of the mixture and place them about 5 cm apart on a lightly greased baking tray.

- Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

We have all recovered from the flu now and this week I'm hoping to get Riley back into some sort of daytime routine. I know it will only be a matter of time (probably days) before he brings home the next bug, oh the joys of having a preschooler!

Here are some of my layouts that I did last week:

Things I'm Loving ....

Here are a few things that I'm loving this week ....

Family outings to the movies!
Though its definitely only a once in a while treat after seeing how much it costs these days!

Peanut butter and choc chip cookies, yum!

My poor sick little boy. I'm not loving that hes been so unwell but I've been getting lots of lovely cuddles.

My Creative Space: Reversible Bag

My little project over the last week was making a bag using this tutorial here. I've been wanting to make a bag for ages but up until now I hadn't felt confidant enough in my sewing skills to try.

Anyway, the tutorial was straight forward, easy to follow and my bag turned out pretty good for a first effort.

As usual it was my top stitching that let me down but I don't think the 'imperfections' (for lack of a better word) aren't too noticeable as long as you don't look too closely. It was also my first time sewing darts and I'm happy with how they turned out.

Little Treasure's Personalized Magazine Cover

I while ago now I received an email from MagShop ....
"Little Treasures, in association with ecostore, are excited to be able to offer you the unique opportunity to create a personalised Little Treasures magazine cover, which we’ll have specially printed on the magazine and delivered to your mailbox"

Well today it finally arrived! It was so cool seeing my little cutie on the cover.

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

Whoops I'm a day late posting this but I have a good excuse I promise. The flu has arrived and we're dropping like flies!

My Creative Space: Turtle Softie

Meet Henrietta ....

How cute is she? In a kind of lumpy, lopsided sort of way, but that just adds character right?

I used this pattern and tutorial here. It was really simple and easy to follow, perfect for a bit of light weight sewing. (I was actually working on her in between the two earthquakes on Monday. I'm just glad I wasn't doing any actual sewing when they hit!)

More Earthquakes For Christchurch

Once again I found myself scrambling to get under a doorway as the city was rocked by another two earthquakes yesterday.

Once again I count my blessings as we have escaped unscathed. No loss of power or water ..... no damage.

Its sad that it has become a way of life for us and it shows in the fact that Riley was completely unphased by these latest two. Me on the other hand ..... anxious and jumpy are just a couple of the words that spring to mind.

Things I'm Loving ....

I am loving this book!

I have been waiting ages for Anne Bishop's latest Black Jewels book to be released. I can tell you that it was worth the wait! If you enjoy a good fantasy read then I definitely recommend reading her Black Jewel's Trilogy (and all the books that follow). I can't even begin to express how much I love these books. They are so well written and completely original, you can't help but to get sucked right in.

My Creative Space: Baby Skirts

A good friend of mine is due with a baby girl in July (she already has 2 boys) and there are just so many cute patterns/tutorials around for girls clothing that I couldn't resist making a couple of little skirts for her. I know its the wrong time of year for skirts but they're easy to layer up or down depending on the weather.

I spent a lot of time looking at lots of different tutorials before deciding how I wanted to make my skirts. These are made out of one long piece of fabric so they only have one seam up the side and they took less than 1/2 an hour to put together. The bit that took the longest was deciding how much elastic to use as I don't have a baby to measure! I ended up using a pair of Riley's newborn pants as a guide.

Things I'm Loving ....

Here are a few things that I'm loving this week ....

This boy and his wonderful imagination. Who knew that simply by putting a box over your head, you turn into a robot.

$3 Fat Quarters and from The Warehouse of all places.

Winter is here and with it all the nasty colds and flus. I haven't been lucky enough to miss out on Riley's latest cold (unlike Phil) so I am loving lemon and honey drinks at the moment.

My Creative Space: Bandana Bibs

I am just loving bandana bibs. They are super cute and such a neat way to dress up a little boy (or girl), I just wish I'd had some when Riley was little. They are really quick and easy to sew which is a bonus when I have limited time because 'someone' (aka Riley) doesn't like me doing any sewing.

As usual I found myself a great tutorial and pattern online, found here.
