Say Cheese! Polaroid Block Swap

I have been busy making polaroid blocks for a swap over at Quiet Play. These blocks are so easy to make and are such a great way to use up some cute fabric scraps.

My Creative Space: Amigurumi

I've been trying my hand at a few amigurumi projects starting with these little guys ....

They were fiddly and frustrating but sooooo cute now that they're finished.

The koala pattern is from here and you can find the tiny whale pattern here.

Pokeball Hat

I was browsing Ravelry the other day and I came across this pattern for a Pokeball hat. Riley is still a big fan of Pokemon so I knew I had to make it for him.

This was quite a challenging project for me. Riley has quite a big head so I needed to make some changes to the pattern to make sure that it would fit him. Now my knowledge of crochet isn't that great so I was really chuffed that it worked out!

I didn't buy any new yarn for this project and some of the yarn that I used was of cheaper quality which definitely shows in the finished product, but Riley loves it and that's all that matters.

Lavender Heart (Mini Tutorial)

As Riley is growing so is his imagination. While this is a good thing, it's the monsters in his bedroom that we could do without. So in yet another attempt to help him feel safe and secure at bedtime I made him a lavender heart to hang above his bed.

They are really easy to make and smell lovely so I thought I'd give a quick rundown on how to make one. I don't have any photos of the process but it really is that easy that I don't think you need any.

Supplies:
- fabric
- dried lavender
- ribbon
- button (or other embellishment)
- coordinating thread
- sewing machine
- pinking shears

1. Make yourself a pattern.
Fold a piece of paper in half. On the folded edge draw half a heart (you can make it whatever size you like). Cut out and unfold.

2. Fold your fabric in half with wrong sides facing. Draw around your heart template onto the right side of your fabric.

3. Sew along the outline of the heart you just drew, leaving a 2" gap in one side.

4. Cut around the heart with pinking shears about 1/4" from stitching.

5. Fill with dried lavender (don't make it too full as you'll need to be able to sew the opening closed).

6. Sew opening closed, starting and finishing where your line of stitching  is.

7. Hand sew a piece of ribbon onto the back, add a button or other embellishment and you're done.
