Pencil Holder

I put this together in about 5 minutes using an empty hot chocolate container, some paper and glue. So easy and it looks great.

Next I'm starting on a little sewing project for Riley for Christmas. Its not something that I've tried making before so I have no idea how its going to turn out. Wish me luck!

Christmas Picnic

Every year Phil's work organizes a Christmas picnic for the staff and their families.

Theres food, face painting, a bouncy castle, miniature railway, pony rides, a magic show and SANTA.

Waiting to see Santa.

Lucky boy!

Ooh what did I get?!

Riley had a nice little chat with Santa. He didn't want to sit on his knee which is just fine by me and he looked a little dazed after the experience.

He got a 3 pack of little vehicles and a bubble wand. It was a stunner of a day and he had heaps of fun blowing bubbles when we got home.

All Aboard!

Riley has been off Kindy all week with a nasty cold which when combined with cutting 2 year old molars equals one very grumpy little boy! To keep him busy he has been rediscovering some of his toys that he hasn't played with in a while, namely his Thomas train set.

He got his train set for Christmas last year and loves it now as much as he did back then. The difference now though is that he is able to build his own tracks. He hasn't quite figured out that both sides need to connect for it to work properly but hes getting very good at putting all the pieces together and its nice to see his mind/imagination working while he does it.

Kiwi Christmas Ornament Swap Update

I've finally finished my ornaments and they are all packaged up to be put in the post on Saturday.

It took me along time to figure out what I was going to make as more often than not my ideas are bigger than my ability. I eventually settled on something fairly simple but they are oh so cute, even if I do say so myself. I really hope my swap partners like them as much as I do.

I will share a pic with you once they have been received. For now you'll have to wait in suspense with this .....

Mixing It Up With Pikelets

I am always looking for ways of sneaking more fruit into Riley's diet. Hes generally pretty good with his eating but sometimes its easier to get fruit into him if he can't see it.

Pikelets are a great base recipe to play around with and its so easy to add whatever you like to it.

We used to make banana pikelets a lot when Riley was younger and recently its been apple pikelets. I basically just added 2 large grated apples to a standard pikelets recipe and a bit of extra milk to get the right consistency.

They were a big hit with Riley and I enjoyed them too. The grated apple added some extra sweetness and a bit of crunch. Next time I make them I'll think I'll add a bit of cinnamon as well.

Letter To Santa

This year Riley is just starting to get the idea of Santa so we decided to write him a letter. Obviously Riley can't write yet so he drew him a pretty picture and decorated it with stickers.

I wrote on the back what Riley wants for Christmas. Thankfully its a short list as hes still not all that bothered what he gets as long as he gets something.

He has asked for:
- some chocolate
- a Dora DVD
- a camera
- a puzzle

Now we wait and see what Santa brings .....

Christmas Creations: Felt Snowman

John the Snowman
(Riley named him).

This is what I've been working on for the last couple of nights, using this tutorial here.

I am useless when it comes to sewing so the whole thing was one great big learning curve and I am so happy with the way hes turned out. Isn't he just the cutest??

Fun With Stamps

Potato stamps that is! Thanks to tartankiwi at Craft and Nappies for the inspiration.

Phil did a really great job making the stamps and Riley had heaps of fun using them.

I contemplated the idea of making our own gift wrap but we don't really have any presents to wrap this year. Apart from for Riley of course but I feel a bit silly getting him to decorate his own wrapping paper.

I'm going to be making  some Christmas cards this week though so Phil did some prints for those and I'll let you know how they turn out.

Kid's Bedroom Letters

I've finally gotten round to making a letter for Riley's bedroom door and it was super quick and easy to make thanks to this tutorial here.

All you need is:
- a plywood letter
- glue
- paper of your choice
- craft knife

Then all you do is place the letter right way up on the paper and roughly cut around. Glue the paper onto the letter and cut around with a craft knife using the letter as you would a ruler to cut it perfectly to shape and you're done.

I found it a bit tricky to neatly cut around all the curves but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Putting Up The Christmas Tree

I know its kinda early but I just love Christmas and Riley wouldn't stop talking about putting the tree up so I thought why not?

 And the finishing touch ......

Riley had heaps of fun decorating the tree this year. He does have a habit of hanging lots of decorations on the same branch though.

Watch This Space!

I finally managed a trip down to Spotlight to get some bits and pieces so I can get started on my ornaments for the Kiwi Christmas Ornament Swap. I'm not the best when it comes to sewing so I really hope they turn out ok.

I also got some bits for something I'm going to make for Riley's room. No guesses as to what it is, lol.

I have a number of Christmas crafts planned this year. Whether I will get round to all of them or not I don't know but ......
