Things I'm Loving ....

After a couple of weeks absence I'm back linking up with Paisley Jade ....
"I wholeheartedly believe that no matter what is happening in your life, there is always something that you can be thankful for... no matter how simple it is"
We've had both Phil's parents and my brother stay with us these school holidays, so that is what I'm loving this week, spending time with family ....

Riley loved all the extra attention. I think he was the happiest hes been in a while and his behavior reflected it too (and I loved it because it meant he had other people to pester play with so I could have a bit of time out).

What are you loving this week? (Link up with Paisley Jade here)

Recipe: Date and Walnut Loaf

It has been ages since I've done any baking but when Phil's parents came down to visit, they brought a whole heap of walnuts down for us, so I decided to get back in the kitchen and make this super yummy date and walnut loaf.

1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup bran flakes
1/2 cup wholemeal flour
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4tsp salt
1 egg
1tbsp sugar
1/4 cup golden syrup, warmed
1tbsp melted butter
1/4 cup milk
1/2tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup hot water

-Sift flour into a bowl. Add bran, wholemeal flour, dates, walnuts and salt.

- In a seperate bowl beat egg and sugar together. Add golden syrup, melted butter and milk. Mix into dry ingredients.

- Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add. Mix well.

- Pour into a greased 18cm loaf tin. Bake at 190 degrees for 45 minutes or until loaf springs back when lightly touched.

- Leave in tin for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

My brother arrived last Thursday and Riley is loving having him here. It also means that the school holidays are going really fast and by the time he leaves it will be almost time to go back to Kindy. Good timing for me as I had no idea what I was going to do with Riley to keep him entertained, but now its been taken out of my hands and he spends all day pestering my brother.

Anyway, here are some of my layouts from this past week:

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

Well the weeks just seem to be flying by at the moment and I can't believe that its the school holidays already! No idea what I'm going to do to keep Riley entertained BUT, my brother is coming back from England and will be staying with us over Easter, that'll give Riley someone else to pester. I'm sure his visit will come with lots of photo ops too as who knows when we'll be seeing him again!

Here are some of my layouts from this past week:

Sewing: Draft Stopper

My sewing machine is still getting a good work out. My latest little project being a draft stopper for the window in Riley's bedroom. It even matches the decor, which was completely unintentional.

It was very quick to make and should hopefully do the trick and help to keep Riley warm and snug this winter.

A Story by Riley

Once upon a time there was a pukekohe and he was pecking and looking for food.

Riley Is ....

I haven't done a post specifically about Riley in a while. Well, where to start ....

Riley is Riley. He is stubborn, impatient, often grumpy, has selective hearing and screams the house down when he doesn't get his own way. All pretty typical toddler/3 year old behavior.

But ....

He also makes me smile and laugh. He worries about me when I'm not feeling well and gives the sweetest kisses and cuddles. He has his own unique sense of humor and his laughter is infectious. He can be charming when he wants to be, usually when we're out and he has a tendency to leave a lasting impression on people with his language and thought processing skills. Hes quick to learn and gets easily bored because of it.

Riley is .... unique and I wouldn't change a thing.

Sewing: Scarf

With the arrival of daylight savings and the rain we're having at the moment, its definitely starting to feel like the onset of winter.

Its getting pretty cold in the mornings now too when we walk to Kindy so I decided to make Riley a scarf and I just love how its turned out!

Riley thinks its pretty cool too ....

I used flannel so its super snuggly and warm. I think I might make myself one too, though without the cars.

I am now very excited to announce that ....

I have just survived made it through my first day as part of the Digital Elite Team. Its taken a while for everything to sink in and theres a lot to get my head around but I'm getting there.

So, heres my first DET layout:

Things I'm Loving ....

Here are a few things that I'm loving this week ....

Last week was Ninja week over at Sew Addictive Fabrics. I managed to snap up some gorgeous fabrics, now I just need to decide what I'm going to do with them  all.

Yummy, budget friendly meals.

Tissue cases! I have been trying for ages to teach Riley how to blow his nose. Well, just the other day he got a tissue out of his tissue case and went for it. I was so proud! His tissue case is really easy for him to use and he takes it to Kindy with him.

And lastly, finding the time to do some sewing/crafting. All will be revealed in a couple of weeks.
