Pocket Tissue Case Variation

I've been making some more pocket tissue cases but this time I tried something a little bit different. The process is exactly the same except that I've used 2 different fabrics for the outside of the case.

If you would like to make one like this then all you need to do is piece together your outer piece by sewing 2 4.75" x 6.5" strips of fabric together with a 1/2 inch seam allowance (you're finished piece should measure 8.5" x 6.5"). Press the seam open and top stitch if you want to (I didn't bother), then follow my tutorial from the top.

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013"

You love Angry Birds. You spend a good part of your day (when you're not at school) building castles and then knocking them down to get the piggies.

Sweet Pouch Swap

Recently I took part in the Sweet Pouch swap hosted by Roz from Sew Delicious.

I had heaps of fun putting together a pouch and some goodies for my swap partner (sorry the photos aren't great, I guess taking photos of a white pouch against a white background wasn't such a good idea) ....

I decided on a simple log cabin block for the front of my pouch. I love the colours and the little birds and I hope my partner will too.

I added some subtle quilting detail to the front and a sweet beaded zipper pull.

My sewing machine decided to spaz out on me during the construction of the pouch so some of the stitching is less than perfect but after a lot of unpicking I figured it was the best I was going to get and I'm still happy with how it turned out.

Here are all the goodies that I sent with the pouch. I chose some New Zealand items and a little something for her kids.

Rice Krispie Treats

We don't make a big deal about Valentine's Day. It's usually just an excuse to have takeaways for tea and a glass of wine.

If I have the time, I like to make a little sweet treat for my boys. This year I had a hard time deciding what to make and it needed to be something that Riley would enjoy too. I finally decided on making some rice krispie treats.

30g butter
10 oz of large marshmallows
1 tsp vanilla
6 cups rice bubbles

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a low heat.

Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Mix in vanilla.

Add the rice bubbles and stir until well coated.

Spread the mixture into a well greased baking dish. Press it down firmly with the back of a metal spoon.

Allow to cool slightly before cutting into heart shapes with a cookie cutter.

Decorate as desired.

They were really easy to make and look so cute cut into little heart shapes. To get the sprinkles to stick I brushed the tops with a little water before pressing them on.

Riley was super excited to have a couple of special treats snuck into his lunchbox.

Boy's Crochet Beanie

I've finally completed all of my summer sewing that's been piling up in my sewing room and I'm moving onto some winter projects starting with a simple crochet beanie for Riley.

I find beanie's to be one of the quickest and easiest things to make. This beanie is worked in double crochet and finished with 5 rows of single crochet. The pirate button I'd had in my stash for a while just waiting for the perfect project.

For some reason the shape of this beanie is different to previous hats that I've made and I can't figure out why. At first I was a bit concerned about it but if anything it's turned out to be a better fit.

Work In Progress: Crochet Blanket

This week I find myself without a sewing machine as it's gone in for a much needed service. I'm feeling a bit lost without it, especially now Riley is back at school, but it does mean that I can focus on doing some crochet for the next little while. The hardest part was deciding on what I was going to make but once I'd made my decision and found the right pattern it was all on.

I'm not good with projects that take a long time so I don't expect to have it finished anytime soon. For now I'm happy crocheting a couple of circles a day. When I have a few more I'll add the white borders, crochet them together and weave in the ends as I go, which should hopefully speed things up a little. I'll also try and post regular updates to help keep me motivated.

It is so hard getting a half decent photo of you these days, but when I finally get one it makes all the mucking around worth while.

School Holiday Bliss

I've really enjoyed these school holidays.

 Taking it slow.

Doing what we want when we want.

Lazy mornings and lazy afternoons.

Enjoying the sunshine and each others company.
